I'm planning a trip to San Antonio next weekend to attend my youngest son's graduation from Air Force Basic Training. One of the local websites had an interesting tidbit: San Antonio is now the 2nd largest city in Texas, passing Dallas, behind Houston. There's a lot to see and do in S A TX, and I'm looking forward to the weekend.
One of our must see visits is a restaurant called "The Cove" that we saw on the Food Network's "Diner's, Drive-ins, and Dives. Also we'll hit a couple of museums, the Alamo, check out the Riverwalk scene, and of course the ceremonies at Lackland AFB. Maybe I'll be able to catch a Spurs game with big brother, since the grad has to be back in his dorm at 8PM every night.
While checking out the local news blogs I came across an interesting article on what was universally described as the "dysfunctional" Bexar County Democratic Party meeting.
The last link is a local news blog and the following comment tells it all.
"With regard to "With two very different agendas circulating, one from Ramos and another from an anti Ramos faction, " - What you call "an anti-Ramos faction" is in fact the Steering Committee, composed of Chair Ramos, the Deputy Chairs, & several other officials. Mr. Ramos should have been present when the Steering Committee drew up that agenda but failed to attend, instead substituting his own unilateral agenda, which included his replacement of elected committee chairs & the elected secretary with his own supporters. When Mr. Ramos' agenda was clearly rejected by a standing vote, a motion was made and widely seconded to adopt the Steering Committee agenda. Mr. Ramos stated that the Steering Committee had no right to formulate an agenda, even though Article VI. B. of the BCDP rules states, "The Steering Committee shall compile the proposed agendas for all CEC meetings and do other advisory work." Rather than allow a vote be taken on this agenda, Mr. Ramos abruptly adjourned the meeting. With regard to the necessary quorum for electing new precinct chairs, Texas Democratic Party Rules, Section III.E.9 states, "If the meeting is to fill a vacancy, however, a majority of the Committee membership shall be required for a quorum, as specified by State law."
-Joel Mayer, Democratic Precinct Chair, Pct 2035 (Tobin Hill, Monte Vista, & River Road)
Missing Money? A Chair who misses a steering committee meeting, and then tries a Hugo Chavez move to place his own supporters in power contrary to party rules? Gotta love the Democrats!
Congratulations, Jon! And thanks to your son for serving-- I know you must be proud.
