Democrat legislators and public sector employees are in the full scale process of alienating themselves from most of the rest of the state's citizens. From Human Events:

Medieval Medicine

No not really, but the faux "spending cuts" of the Obama Administration are in fact the bleeding of the average citizen.  This Administration is not satisfied with a pint at a time.

"Indeed, as the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday, the total spending cuts in Obama's budget for the next three years come in at $20 billion, out of total spending for those years of over $11 trillion ($11,000 billion). As the Journal observed, "Hosni Mubarak was more in touch with reality last Thursday night."   

20/11,000 = .018%  a remarkable show of abstinence by our chief exec. A crack addict could do better.

Puerto Rico Understands, MSM has no clue

The governor of Puerto Rico after taking office two years ago pursued the opposite economic agenda of of the Obama Administration and is now reaping the rewards. Hispanics across America should take note. The policies of the left are bankrupt morally, economically, and defy logic and history.

"In just two years, we have shrunk our budget gap from 44 percent to 11 percent -- now, 31 states of the Union have higher deficits, proportionally, than Puerto Rico -- and we will achieve a balanced budget in fiscal year 2013. Last year, Puerto Rico received the highest credit rating increase of any other state or territory in the nation, as well as its first positive credit outlook in nearly three decades."

Luis G. Fortuño is the governor of Puerto Rico, president-elect of the Council of State Governments, second vice president of the Southern Governors Association, and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Governors' Association Center for Best Practices.

San Antonio did not disappoint

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I was going to San Antonio for my youngest son's graduation from Air Force Basic Military Training.  We definitely hit the right week, as the 70 degree weather morphed into 40 degrees this week.  Thursday morning we watched the "Airman's Run"
where all the graduates run displaying a level of fitness most of the spectators envied, and a while later we attended  the "Airman's Coin" ceremony.

Friday morning was the official graduation where the grads marched in review for the Commander, took their oath, and recited the Airman's Creed
  Afterwards our family group found "The Cove", a unique restaurant that has an attached coin laundry and car wash.

  Many of the trainees that had now officially become "Airmen" took advantage of an extended town liberty Friday evening which allowed them to stay out past the official 20.00 hours sign in requirement back at base if they attended the San Antonio Rampage hockey game that night. (Proof of attendance by keeping a ticket stub was required).  After 8-1/2 weeks of BMT, the extra freedom was welcome. The hockey game was played on PINK ice with a portion of the proceeds for the benefit of Susan G Komen for the Cure.  The combination of the Komen for the Cure, corporate sponsors, and the Airmen and their families helped to produce a record crowd of 14,339 for the Rampage.  The Pink ice was unique, and the game was actually quite entertaining.

Saturday we were treated to a Cattle Drive and parade through downtown, 

  a tour of the Alamo,

and the Riverwalk
.

“Today’s filing is the latest in a growing list of major educational reform efforts that will increase school options for North Carolina families that want the best for their children but cannot afford it,” Allison said. “I would like to praise Rep. Marcus Brandon (D-Guilford) for co-sponsoring this important measure. Rep. Brandon has shared with me in our previous conversations the need for parental school choice when black males are finishing high school at a dismal 41.7 percent rate."

I met the personable Marcus Brandon for a brief chat after the Greensboro Partnership's Candidate Forum. Marcus will look you in the eye and speak honestly. I am confident that he will represent the interests of his constituents well, and I applaud him for taking what is widely considered a conservative "family empowerment" stand.

Hurricane Hugo

"In Venezuela, a popular Colombian-produced soap opera, Chepe Fortuna, has been taken off the air: its script allegedly contains derogatory material against President Hugo Chavez. The Venezuelan government intimidated the local TV broadcaster Televen into not showing the series."

"The script of that soap opera used these names to create sentences with double meanings: in one episode, the character "Venezuela" loses her dog "Little Hugo" and, while crying on the phone, she asks a friend what will become of her without "Little Hugo." His response was: "You will be free, Venezuela...Hugo is messing up everything in the house...he is making you look bad."

How small is a leader that whines "They talk about me like a dog!"

 

Who's your Daddy?

The unmarried mother statistics just keep getting worse.

From USA Today: "In 2009, 41% of children born in the USA were born to unmarried mothers (up from 5% a half-century ago). That includes 73% of non-Hispanic black children, 53% of Hispanic children and 29% of non-Hispanic white children."

I wonder what the statistics would look like if filtered for "regular church attendance".

Eyes Wide Shut

Another incompetent Obama socialist appointee resigns.  Carol Browner's actions, statements, and subsequent cover-up of the same were among the worst behaviors of this crop of left wing idealogs. 

The NYT reports:  "An aide to Ms. Browner said she was proud of her White House accomplishments, including helping to coordinate response to the BP oil spill"

The Obama Administration's Gulf Oil Spill Response was an unmitigated failure to any with their eyes open, This is laughable.

The Greensboro Symphony Orchestra featured Yura Lee on the violin performing the Paganini's Violin Concerto No.1 at Dana Auditorium Saturday night.  Over the years we have attended quite a few GSO performances, but this one stands out (to me at least) as the finest solo performance I have ever attended. Yura Lee is a true virtuoso. The Paganini Concerto is a beautiful piece, and the GSO was magnificent.  The performance will be broadcast on WFDD 88.5 on February 20th. I'm officially chastising myself for missing the Friday Chamber Concert featuring Ms. Lee.

The beauty of this Concerto is that it takes no effort to listen, while at the same time it is fully engaging. I've been to concerts where I (sheepishly) admit to have almost fallen asleep during some passages, but this was not one of them.

This Paganini piece compared to the Shostokovich Cello Concerto of an October concert, convinced me that winters are far to harsh in Russia.   Listening to Shostokovich is hard work, and I'll leave it at that.
